I have just sent off our winter 2022 menu to the local printers; something I’ve done more times than I can count over the last five years. This time hits different though. For the first time since we opened in October 2016, the menu is no longer vegan.
I was reading an article online recently about the alarming rate of childhood obesity in Australia. A recent study has revealed that one in five Australian are obese before they have even started school. Seriously! No wonder Australia is one of the unhealthiest countries on earth.
I should start with the positives first though. I have been so overwhelmed with the number of people who have visitedThe Sweet Meadow since we opened the cafe on October 20. I was having nightmares no one would show up, so to see lots of familiar faces 8 weeks in (some have been coming in since the first day we opened), makes me super happy.
I’ve been eating a plant-based, vegan diet since early 2013. I shouldn’t call what I do a ‘diet’ though. It’s simply eating the way humans are designed to. Why do I eat this way? Because I love how happy and healthy and compassionate I feel when eating a vegan diet. There is nothing better than eating as much sweet fruit, fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains and healthy fats as I care for. I don’t feel hungry or deprived and I never feel guilty about food. This is really the best kind of lifestyle and I will never look...
